WORKING HOURS : WEEKDAYS 9:00AM – 5:30PM + ADDITIONAL HOURS

CTC      :      800,000.00

MEDICAL AID SUBSIDY : 36,854

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The New Business Conflicts Department at is responsible for investigating legal conflicts of interest and firm business issues. Where conflicts or business issues are identified, the department resolves these prior to matter approval by a partner on the Ethics Committee and before a firm matter number is opened.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Responsible for the coordination and supervision of the review of research and analysis involved with potential conflicts of interest related to incoming new business to the firm, as well as any other firm initiative. Duly responsible for overseeing, developing, and supervising a team of Researchers, Analysts and Coordinators while carrying out the firm’s short, medium and long term objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CONFLICTS RESEARCH & ANALYSIS:

Oversee the team’s output in the identification of potential conflicts of interest through corporate and conflicts database research of client and matter information

Consult the Head of Compliance and Conflicts and Director of Conflicts, the Conflicts Managers – Lateral Partner / Counsel and Attorney / Personnel Conflicts Clearance, members of the Legal Ethics Committee, Conflict Attorney and members of the firm’s management, as necessary, to identify and develop strategies for conducting the initial conflict research toward resolving conflicts of interest and business sensitivity issues

Assist incoming and Firm Attorneys in the identification and resolution of conflicts of interest and firm business issues

Supervise and coordinate a team consisting of Analyst Assistants, Junior Analysts, Analysts, Senior Analysts and Coordinators

Develop, provide oversight and assist with the training and mentoring of new probationary and full time team members

Coordinate and provide oversight on team assignments and monitor the progress of initial conflicts research as it relates to new firm hires

Review overtime and other payroll documentation of team members

Prepare annual evaluations of team members

Review leave applications | Ensure the effective management of the database to enhance database integrity

EDUCATION

Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF 4) - Required

Legal/risk management qualification or tertiary qualification (NQF 7/8) - Required

EXPERIENCE:

2 years Conflicts Research & Analysis at an operational level is required

1 years Conflicts Research & Analysis (as a part of individual Development and Oversight) at Supervisory level required
