Electrical Engineer – Mine Rehabilitation

Introduction
An Electrical Engineer specializing in mine rehabilitation plays a pivotal role in the restoration, decontamination, and repurposing of decommissioned mining sites. The position ensures that electrical systems and infrastructure are safely and sustainably decommissioned or adapted to support environmental restoration, aligning with the objectives of the mine closure plan.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
B-Eng Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (NQF Level 8)
Government Certificate of Competency (GCC – Mining)
Experience:
Minimum 6 years of experience in the mining industry
At least 2 years as a 2.13.1 appointee in terms of MHSA
Valid South African Driver’s License: Code 8/EB
Medically fit to work in a mining environment
Computer literacy: MS Office Suite, SAP
Knowledge and Skills:
Technical analysis and problem-solving in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
Strong grounding in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) engineering
Exposure to mechanical and civil engineering within mining operations
Knowledge of Asset Management and Optimization strategies
Project management and execution of engineering projects
SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) and Risk Management
Ability to drive business performance through engineering solutions
Job Description
Key Performance Areas:
Demonstrates safety leadership, promotes sustainable development, and upholds AMSA values in all engineering activities.
Manages engineering processes with a focus on safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness to meet both short-term and long-term goals as defined in the mine closure plan.
Ensures equipment availability, coordinates infrastructure demolition, and implements decontamination plans as required.
Manages resources to deliver projects and performance targets efficiently.
Conducts and coordinates engineering audits to ensure compliance with all relevant standards and specifications.
Establishes and maintains effective stakeholder relationships, both internal and external.
Supports continuous improvement initiatives and contributes to asset optimization and engineering efficiency.
Applies multi-disciplinary knowledge to support electrical, mechanical, civil, and control systems engineering needs within the closure project.
