Industry: Import/ Export of seafood 
Location: Paarden Eiland, Western Cape 
Salary: Market related 
Contract type: Permanent (with a 6-month probation)

Working hours: 08h00 – 17h00 (hours may fluctuate, weekends and overtime as per

operational requirements).

EE status: EE candidates preferred in terms of Employment Equity policy

Job Purpose

Ensure effective running of the HR department by fulfilling daily HR functions and responsibilities.

Experience / Skills

  • 10 years relevant HR experience (at least 5 years at management level)

  • CCMA experience (Conciliation and Arbitration)

  • Experience with unions and negotiations (advantageous)

  • Extensive knowledge of BCEA and LRA

  • Sage Payroll and Timekeeping (advantageous)

  • Intermediate Excel skills (minimum)

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-year academic qualification in Human Resources or similar field

  • Registered facilitator / assessor (advantageous)

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full HR function within the business

  • Collate information for 3rd-party payroll processing

  • Ensure weekly wages are submitted on time and processed per company policy

  • Draw up charges for disciplinary matters and guide line management through the process

  • Initiate hearings when needed

  • Deal effectively and efficiently with grievances

  • General admin duties (staff queries, leave applications, etc.)

  • Recruitment: create job specs, advertise roles, liaise with agencies, conduct interviews

  • Onboard new staff, complete IT take-on forms, arrange factory tours

  • Ensure probation discussions are completed per company policy

  • Ensure management conducts performance and learning plan discussions

  • Consult, coach and mentor line management on human capital issues

  • Manage HR communication and announcements

  • Compile monthly HR reports for Directors

  • Conduct EE meetings and manage EE processes and reporting

  • Create, update and implement company policies and procedures

  • Create and maintain job descriptions

  • Arrange and coordinate training; source providers; make bookings; maintain records (registers, certificates)

  • Assist with legislated OHS training where necessary

  • Manage learnership programs

  • Ensure all information is accurate for SETA submissions (WSP, ATR, WFP)

  • Handle BEE, EE, SETA and DOL audits; conduct internal audits
